“Nicola, I wanted to report back and tell you how much I appreciated my time with you on 13 January.
Since seeing you, I have made lots of simple changes. The easiest one was getting back into the habit of wearing makeup most days, and I am confident again in my technique. I have been surprised that I have gladly worn lipstick daily too – and your advice on using a lip pencil made a huge difference. I have rediscovered the joy of browsing makeup counters, which has given me great pleasure. Cleansing and moisturising has become part of my daily routine, and I believe I look better for it.
In clothing terms, I have embraced your advice, particularly in wearing scarves. This has delighted and startled my husband, too, who – so far – has bought me a Georg Jensen silver scarf brooch and a Liberty silk scarf – and he has been stunned to learn that I had so many scarves lurking, unworn, in my wardrobe. I have invested in more tights, and am wearing dresses far more than before. People have noticed that I look good and have asked what I have been doing – the changes there are the subtle sort where you can see a difference but aren’t sure what it is.
Those were the simple changes. I was also inspired by your mood boards and am in the midway stages of losing my fringe to move to Helen Mirren’s hair style. I look in the mirror now and I like what I see. My hairdresser is thrilled after dealing with the same bob for the last twenty years. I have redone my highlights too.
And lastly in a completely unanticipated change, I saw my optician and am now on my fifth day of wearing contact lenses. I am thrilled by this, and have instantly lost any squeamishness about touching my eyes. I feel great for removing the barrier of glasses from my face (and oh wow, the joy of being able to see my eyes when applying eye makeup!).
I feel incredible. I feel so much more confident, more empowered and much happier. This is of course from within – I had to be ready – but your advice winkled this out of me and gave me the gentle push I needed. I am incredibly grateful to you.
I was going to try to write this in a card for you but I hardly ever write things these days and I doubt my handwriting would be clear! But hopefully it won’t matter how I say it – the message is that you have gently but effectively moved me into a direction that makes me very happy, and thank you!”
