Best Dressed Wedding Guest

Were you, like me, glued to the screen watching the royal wedding? I loved the simplicity and elegance of Meghan’s  Givenchy wedding gown, topped off by that fabulous veil. It will be interesting to see how her choice influences bridal wear over the year ahead.

Exciting though it was to see THE wedding gown though, it was actually checking out what the wedding guests were wearing which I was particularly interested in.

From Amal Clooney in head-to-toe daffodil yellow, to Kitty Spencer in forest green with pops of tangerine, the new Duke and Duchess’ guests certainly put on a colourful show.

Here’s a guide to the colours you might like to consider for that special occasion this Summer.

Let’s start with Amal Clooney.  For the wedding, Amal chose a show-stopping Stella McCartney ensemble in a vibrant yellow that is very much on-trend. This shade will work for you if you fall into the DEEP/WARMCLEAR/WARM or WARM colour categories.

Go for yellow with this Bay Bow Dress by Coast.

(Incidentally, How lucky can one woman be?  Not only is Amal stunning, smart and wealthy with a wardrobe to die for, she’s also married to the gorgeous George!)

The Mother of the Bride, Doria Ragland ( Solitary and dignified – Didn’t you just wish she’d at least been able to bring a friend to share her daughter’s special day?) stood out for her understated elegance in Mint  Oscar de La Renta. This delicate shade will work beautifully for you if you fall into the LIGHT/COOL colour categories.

This elegant dress from Phase Eight sets just the right tone for a Spring/Summer wedding (pictured left)

Suits actress Abigail Spencer went for a retro look with her Alessandra Rich blue polka-dot dress, complete with cinched-in waist and demure midi-length style.

Polka dots never really go out of fashion but are a key trend for Spring/Summer and this Michael Kors dress is a classic cut which will flatter an hourglass body shape beautifully. The navy colour will work for all colour categories too.

All of the female guests wore some sort of hat, fascinator or hatinator at the Royal wedding and if you are attending a more formal occasion this season, you may wish to do the same.

Whether you go for a traditional wide-brimmed hat like Oprah or a refined fascinator with elegant netting like Kitty Spencer, make sure your choice is in a fabulous colour from your palette and in a style that balances your face shape.
